UNITED WAY’S ANNUAL DAY OF CARING RETURNS

Thousands Serve Across Six Counties

United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes is bringing together 5000 volunteers across the region today for the community’s single largest volunteer effort, Day of Caring. Nearly 200 local not-for-profit organizations will receive help with beautification projects to refresh their spaces and better serve their clients.

For the first time in its history, Day of Caring is taking place across Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wyoming, and Wayne county on the same day. Day of Caring projects include painting, raking, cleaning up parks, planting community gardens, and getting children’s outdoor play areas and summer camps ready for the warm weather.

“After the separation and hardship we have collectively endured the last few years, it is incredible to see companies and teams coming together to connect and support their local community at such a massive scale,” said Jaime Saunders, President and CEO of United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes. “Today, we keep our neighbors in Buffalo in our hearts as we dedicate this day of service to a brighter, more just, and equitable world.”

United Way utilized its volunteer platform, Volunteer United, to mobilize volunteers for Day of Caring. This year, volunteer teams and nonprofit organizations have a chance to win $250 for their project site by participating in a Makeover Photo Contest. Teams can post before and after photos of their volunteer sites on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, using #DayofCaring.

For those who were unable to participate in Day of Caring, there are other opportunities to get involved throughout the year at www.unitedwayrocflx.org/volunteer.
