United Way Lines Up With The World Community Grid

Global Humanitarian Project Uses Idle Computers For Scientific Study

Rochester, NY - The United Way of Greater Rochester is proud to announce its partnership with the World Community Grid in its effort to maximize scientific research all around the world.

When people are not at work and computers are idle, the World Community Grid’s groundbreaking technology connects computers to its mainframe and uses them as mini research stations for scientific study taking place anywhere in the world. Thousands of computers can be connected at once, providing faster results for scientists while recycling energy given to home computers not in use.

“The World Community Grid, like our organization, is committed to uniting the power of people to change lives.” said Enrique Brower, Senior Vice President of Community Impact at United Way.

The World Community Grid already provides resources to FightAIDS@Home campaign, as well as scientists involved in the fight against cancer and Muscular Dystrophy. Some other partners involved in the World Community Grid include Rochester Institute of Technology, the United Nations Association, the AIDS Action Committee, and the American Cancer Society.
